2 questions regarding liverock...

What is a showpiece (liverock)? I've heard some people talk about how they received a showpiece in their shipment.

I'm about to order about 75lbs of rock for my 85 gallon tank (43x42x12). I have 2 options in terms of size: (3) rocks that are about 25lbs each or (1) rock that is 75lbs. Not sure what to get, need a little help deciding.

Thanks!

This is like asking someone how big was that prize fish they caught last year .

My perception of a showpiece live rock that unexpectedly came with a shipment of live rock is one large piece of rock with a lot of varied colored coraline, with some baby mushrooms and polyps and other incidental coral or freebies.

A 75 lb live rock is a monster. But then, you can always chop it up to aquascape. I guess it depends on how "showpiece" the rocks are.

It is something that you would be proud of in your show tank. Kind of a focus piece. I've heard it used for corals or liverock.

Live rock or dead rock? A single 75 lbs rock is pretty big. Just make sure its not just a huge thick chunk of rock unless that is what you are looking for. Did they send you pics of the rock or an idea of how they are shaped?

Its being ordered from Timor. No pics, kinda of a crapshoot on the shapes. It would be an awesome piece if it came with a bunch of nooks a crannies, IMO. Worst case scenario, I can break the rock up to form a more interesting aquascape if need be.

You are going to want to have caves and such. I got my live rock from Live Aquaria and its on sale right now. Great stuff might want to look over there.
