Chemical Readings for 10/10/10

Hello all!

my readings for today are!
pH-7.8
No2-0ppm
No3-0ppm
Ammonia-4

im on day 5 so its nice to see some action!, i do have a shrimp in there since my rock was not "live" to get some bacteria! i also combined a "live" rock when i set everything up with the "dry" rock. The live rock is very colorful, purple, green, now the purple is spreading onto the sand floor, and some moldy stuff is growing on the bottom! i should be expecting all this right?

Should i also take the shrimp out yet or let it be??

Looks like you're just starting to get ammonia build up so you should see your other readings come up soon. I would leave that piece of shrimp in the tank until it's gone. Last small tank I set up I pulled the skin off the shrimp so that it wouldn't be floating around in there once the shrimp dissolved. I wouldn't worry about the stuff growing on the sand. Completely normal in a new tank. If it gets very thick you can scoop or siphon some off but it will quickly regrow.

Just remember to be patient with the new tank. Mistakes that you make trying to rush the process can take a long time to correct and can be rather expensive if it results in the death of an animal or coral. Patience is key.

Good luck,
Mike

I kinda went 2 steps further in waiting a full almost 3 months my tank literlly at 2 shrimp to nothing before i considered it cycled and checked my params. Even though at 6 weeks my tanked showed no amonia nitraite nitrites.. i still waited another month before i got 2 fish. But dang about 4 weeks after that lol the first cyno bloom wow talk about red slime hit me but it went away about as fast as it showed up..
