birdsnests are one of those corals that do not tolerate change very well, especially if its a colony. i would put it back where it came from and wait to see what happens. if it starts to RTN and turn white, frag immediately and save the good pieces.

I'd post a thread in the SPS keepers forum if you want some traffic in your thread. Not many new hobbyists will have a lot of SPS knowledge to help you. I would also follow dogbone's advice and get the coral back into it's normal location and give it a chance to recover. Frag it only as a last resort.

Two things are happening:
Its bleaching or its RTN'ing If its bleached, just a loss of the symbiotic algae in which the polyps are still in the coral skeleton, there may be a chance you can save it. Place it in the tank at the bottom and hopefully it will pull through. My guess, it got hot at the swap meet in that limited water volume and it cooked it.

Its toast........
My wife and i didnt want to throw it back in the tank. As to what could happen to our other corals. (plus i dont like it anyway) No where to store frags so its drying out now and will be used for somthing else. Oh well i guess you live and learn (the hard way) |

Dude, I'd put it in the tank. I've had stuff that appeared to be dead for weeks start to stick out polyps and color up. Put it at the bottom in a spot with moderate flow and light and let it sit for at least a week. Nothings going to happen to your other inhabitants. This won't poison your tank. If it's still whacked after a week then toss it. As it is now you might be throwing away a viable coral.
