Critters......

I don't think my live rock has been blessed with all the critters that typically come with them? Can I put the little britle starfish, pods (most importantly), and other critters even though I'm at least a month out on any fish?

All my parameters are perfect! Everything measured 0's today

How old is the tank and have you had all the stages of your cycle yet?

This is the crazy part....... My tank is a week and a half old. No real cycle to speak of as far as the crazy off the chart parameters go. I even have 2 shrimp in there..... I have a 156 gallon---150 pounds of base rock and 50 pounds of live (got a thread on hear about it). Like I said though I'm not in a real hurry just wondering if I can start with some critters?

But yes I have seen stages of a cycle....

Not really sure where you are in the cycle. "Everything 0" by itself unfortunately doesn't mean much. Did you ever get a spike or a reading of anything at all of the big 3?

Anyhow, I wouldn't hurry on "critters" either. They will come soon enough from the live rock. If you're just looking to do something, and willing to spend just to do something and maybe it may help kind of a thing, spend your money on bacteria in a bottle.

I have the bacteria in a bottle.....just didn't want to use it yet! Wanted to see "the spike" first and then put it in there. Just haven't seen the big spike? I'm still patient with the whole process just confused and looking for an explanation!

Also if your trying to get a jump start on the copepods you can buy them in a bottle too and get them going befor you put fish in so you will have a nice supply of natural food in the tank, also I would put some down in the refugium if you have one, another thing you can do to help speed up your cycle is to get a scoop of live brine shrimp and put it in the tank as that will help with the bacteria growth to start

If your going to do the copepods. In the tank get a pile of small rocks and that will give them a hiding place ,also like I said put some in the refigium and you should be fine.I also went to me lfs and saw they had.a nice tank full of cheato algee with all kinds. Of crazy living things and I bought a handfull of that and put that in the refugium, that will also help with your critters.( if your going to buy the cheato spend some time watching it for any living critters, that's what I did before I bought)
