Which Tunze

Which tunze powerhead would replace vortech mp40 or what other options for a 150g long?

The 6105 would be the comparable model. If you wanted wider flow from it, you can put the 6205(part # 6205.130) on it, and the flow is similar to MP40s

Do you need the controller if you plan a master controller down the road?

Meaning a 3rd part controller like Apex or Profilux?...No, but you will not have the variable control of the pumps now. The controllable Tunzes need controllers to ramp them up or down, but they can run at a set adjustable speed without one(you can use its potentiometer to set the flow).

They sell single controllers, and you can pick up the used 7095 multi contrllers on these boards for about 100-120 shipped.
