ASM G3 w/Sedra 9000 issue

So I upgraded my G3 from a sedra 5000 to the 9000.

For the first few days, all was good. I was pulling pretty good skimmate for a new pump. In the last three days, the skimmer has overflowed.

I have the gate valve mod (only mod). Currently, the gate is fully open. I am bubbling almost to the top right now.

So, my questions:

1. Is this just too much pump for the G3?

2. Is this just the pump breaking in?

3. Should I go back to the standpipe and see if that helps?

4. Something else?

If you want to get rid of either of the sedra's PM me. It sounds like too much pump for sure by the problem your describing. Did you see someone else do this with success? I would look at how they modified the skimmer if at all.

I've not seen anyone else do it - just lots of people asking if it can be done.

I've actually put my 5000 on my G2 - it should work pretty well on it since they are the same sized body almost.

I'm running a the setup you discribe without issues, and have been for a few years. Mine is using the 9000 in a recirc mod setup, feed water from the DT overflow.

No issues, works well. The recirculation setup using this pump may make a difference though..

GL!

Thanks zigzag. I switched out last night and went back to the stand pipe. I'm not sure, but I think the gate valve may have been creating too much pressure.

Once I put the stand pipe on, the water level lowered and looked normal.
