Tank Design Help

Hey guys!

First time posting!
I have picked out the dimensions of the tank i am intending to get built
60'W x 18'H x 30'D Starfire front but thats all i have so far
I am not sure what kind of overflow is the best and not sure on sump design as well.
Hope yall fellow reefers can help me out, instead of embarassing myself @ the LFS

First of all you need to explain where you want to go with your tank. FOWLR, SPS, LPS etc.......that will give guys an idea of what to recommend.

I would do a lot of research first, read, read, read.........

Check out these Herbie or Beananimal overflows, they are the best and offer a dead silent system with NO microbubble issue. There are also two very big threads on these overflows on RC here.

As for the sumps, check out this site.

You need to thinks about lights, pumps (both return and in tank), chillers heaters, controllers, protein skimmers, ATO's, dosing etc.........

HTH's and give us some more info, you will get more detailed responses.

cheers

oh and be very cautious of LFS advice. They tend to have a commercial element in what they advise.......

Well currently i am running a 120G mixed reef... so everything (SPS/LPS/Zoas) are everywhere...
lights - 8 bulb T5 Teklight
Skimmer - Bubble Magus Nac7

The new tank i am planning to do will be SPS on 80% of the tank and LPS/zoas (less light demanding corals) on the dimmer side of the tank.
from all the people i have spoke with it seems herbie is the way to go for overflow....
as for sump... (i am VERY non artistic) hence i need help designing haha
but basically first chamber will be my skimmer, 2nd chamber i want it to be a mini fuge, third chamber will be my zeovit reactor/return.

I think im still missing some info... lol i just dont know how to spit it all out at once
Thanks for the help guys

Early next week I'll be setting up my 180g mix-reef. It'll have two central (durso standpipe) overflows (1.5" drains, 3/4" returns). As for the sump I purchased a Visio 60e and got the baffles cut at the local glass store. Supergluing the baffles was easy, and this way is much cheaper than buying an acrylic sump.

I would check out other RC users' tanks. The thread authors usually list their equipment and livestock, and it's a great starting point for what you'll need for your system. Of course, feel free to ask specific questions
