clown fish behavior
So I have developed an issue over the last couple days. I have what appears to be a mated pair of clowns in my 80 gallon and 2 BTA's. They both loved the anemones until yesterday, and stuck side by side also. Now, the female has been sitting in one corner of the tank, barely hovering above the gravel. She has seemingly isolated herself. The male hasn't changed behavior at all. He still hangs close to his anemone...Any ideas what is happening? I can give more details, I'm just not sure what is relevant...

Sounds like she is sick...Do you have a hospital/qt tank handy in case things get worse? Some people will jump on me for saying to qt her and say oh that will hurt her more and you should wait it out. Usually a couple days later in those threads after waiting it out the OP posts back saying that their fish is dead or has gotten progressively worse.
Is she breathing heavily, and have you examined her closely for any tell tale sicknesses? |

She looks no different in terms of breathing or skin than any of my other fish that are healthy.... I am honestly confused...

I also don't have a QT tank at all.
Update: She was in the water column when I left for work this morning, but then went back to that little corner. Anyone think moving an anemone closer to her would make her feel more comfortable? Anyone? |

Dunno, clowns are weird. The other month my rose anemone that my clown was hosted to got chopped up in the fan overnnight (lived) but it hid between rock for a week or two. During this time my clown literally would just go in the corner and just stay there most of the time... While the other mated clown slept nice and sound in its big leather lol. Althought during this time he did eat so I didn't have that problem.... If it starts eating I would say don't worry about it but since its not I would keep a close eye to find out whats really wrong..
More anemones is never easy if they are attached to big rocks, but if it's an easy task in your tank it's always worth a try ![]() Last edited by 3skitch3; 11/13/2010 at 09:36 AM. Reason: add more |

Actually that does make sense now that I think about it. I accidentally injured one of the BTA's moving one of the rocks....I think it was the females favorite. Well that BTA is hiding, and since then the clown has been sitting in different locations of the tank, until she finally settled on the corner...I will give it a week or two until the BTA comes back and see if that helps.
