Quick MH question
I have a 175w 14k Ushio MH hanging above my 40B - I am using this for lighting for my frag shelf, I have 4 39w T5s as well. Currently I am running the MH for only 4 hrs and plan on bumping it up to 6hrs over the next mth or so. How high over my tank should I hang the MH?

Currently under the MH I have a few SPS frags - the shelf is about 12inches from the water line

I adjust the height of my fixtures based on the coverage I am trying to get with the light.
That said, there are a lot of factors that help determine hanging height, like heat transfer, coverage, intensity, etc. Realistically, hang it at least 6 inches above the water, that may help reduce some heat transfer, help avoid some splashing, which is rather annoying to clean off of the glass, and gives you a little room to feed without having to move it. Hope this helps, Landon
