Dosing questions
I recently did a few tests and I finally have my numbers in check
Ca 400, Alk 7-10, and Mg 1300. I purchased the 2 part system from BRS. There are currently have 20 small SPS frags and a hand full of LPS. According to their chart it states I should dose .4-.6mL/gallon (A few hard SPS corals or clams load). My total system volume is about 90G. How would you start a routine to start dosing for the tank? Start off at 36 mL of Alk and Ca? Am I simply over thinking this? I just don't want to nuke my system. How often should I test my parameters once I start dosing? Daily? |

You need to check your calcium/alkalinity every day at the same time. Adjust your dose according to these readings. Ideally you want your calc/alk to be exactly the same at the same time every day. If your readings go over your target use a little less. If your readings are under your target use a little more, etc. It will take a little while to get it dialed in but once you do it makes life very easy and only needs to be adjusted every month or so. Hope this helps.

That is exactly how I do it. BRS dosers connected to my RKL. Makes life so much easier.

In any dosing schema I would recommend testing daily for at least the first week, and then start backing down once you gain confidence that your levels are adequate. I wouldnt rely on the equations on the product if they're simply giving generic dosing patterns. Gather data on your system and then calculate the required dosing plan.
