Something to share with all of you.

Something amazing happen this last monday. I decide to go to beach that about 3 years i didn't visit. The reason i go there just to fine some algae for my sump, but i didn't fine any algae but i fine something amazing SPS coral. It about 200 meter long along the rock barrier.

The picture not so clear because when i take this picture the tide is about 0.9 meter at 8am, to take nice and clear picture i have to wait until the tide very low about 0.4 meter. Now at that high is at 3am.

It's in Malaysia. So, does this mean that 3 years ago there was no SPS growing there and now there is? If so, that is pretty good news!

Thanks for sharing.

Dennis

It in Brunei, in between 2 state of Malaysia (Sabah & Serawak).
I not so sure, the last time I visit there it full of seaweed, and didn’t see any coral in that place. I used to fishing there almost every week that time. May be there is but still small.

To make shot story, this areas suppose to be a mega marina project, it very huge area a few mile long. Then something happen, the project stop for the last 10 years. And for the last 3 years the road to this place is washout, no car can go in accept 4WD. Not many people come to fishing here. Most probably not many people know the coral is growing in this place, other wise it will be history. I may take some for frag. It will be after I set-up my new tank.

not to sound rude or anything, but if it was a conservation effort, i dont think you should be taking pieces off of it. let it be and let it grow for another 10 years....then maybe take a piece...

Nice job acoff87!! I would take small frags of each one before they decide to go in and develope the area. Hopefully though, the developers would consider moving or preserving the corals. You fragging them would be your own conservation of them IMO.

Yeah, I would definitly frag a little of that. Monti caps grow so fast you could take a thumbnail size chip from several colonies and it would be less damage than normal wave action. Just use a tool to make a clean clipping and try not to be grabbing the colony with your hands.

Just dont tell all your local friends about it

Thank you for your concern, i don't think to take a few pieces for frag for say about 2in in size can be harm the entire coral in that areas.

Thank you, what is the best way to cut for a frag.
So far nobody know the coral is growing here. If tother people know there must be a lot people already talk about it.

Not saying that the coral WILL be harmed, but I would like to point out that this is the general human mentality that I believe is the downfall of many creatures. "If I take just a little bit what is the harm in that?" If 100 or 1,000 people take just a little bit, it is no longer just a little bit that has been taken. That said, this hobby was started with people collecting MUCH MORE than just a little bit, so it would be hypocrisy to tell you not to do it, just be careful with how you justify your actions

Yeah you right, you got the point there. But in my case, I do research about this place. I already talk to most of the friend who keeping reef tank (all soft coral) if there know about coral existing in that area, for my surprise nobody know about it, of course I never mention where the area is. So far only me and my friend, two of us.

And for your info, if you wanted to see the coral you really need to have very low tide it is below 0.7 meter, if more than that hardly can see. Like this morning I when there to see and for taking picture, the tide about 1.0 to 1.1 meter, I don’t see anything. From now the low tide on daytime is always above 1 meter, below that only at night or early morning from 1 to 5am.

Here is the link for tide table.
http://www.bruclass.com/html/tide/March.htm

Note: So far I have not see people keeping SPS in my area. This because nobody selling this type of coral here.
