How long before new fish start eating?
Just got a clown goby 1 and half days ago, and I do not think it has eaten yet. It is pretty active running here running there and run into the glass ALOT (fighting his reflection maybe?). I tired to feed frozen mysis shrimp, and frozen brine shrimp and he has not ate any. There is a huge pod population as he has is the first fish (Old nano cube, just had corals in it for the past few month), there is always something running around.
I see his belly is pretty concaved, should I wait another day? or should I try cyclop-eeze? |

Notorious for this. Test your water parameters: any ammonia will be a problem. Good params are in my sig. When dealing with a finicky species, get your water bang-on good quality first of all. Keep it quiet, and try feeding with lights off as well as on. The fact he is rushing at a reflection may indicate he's not feeling 'in charge' of his tank.
Ask the source what he was eating where he came from. And the cyclopeeze is a better bet than the mysis: mysis may be larger than he likes. Brine shrimp is really low on nutrients. With the shyer species, I run a single blue chromis: that silly creature running around seems to reassure some really cryptic sorts.

Normally, if I see my fish eating at the LFS, it doesnt have a problem adjusting. However, i've bought some fish straight out of the cooler (never out of their bag), and didnt see them eat. Sometimes i've had trouble getting those fish to eat. That is why its always important to see the fish eat before you buy. Also, brine shrimp may be low on nutrients, but the goby should eat it (if youre just trying to get it to eat, period).

Just fed it some cyclopezee. And it still isn't eating right now it is just sitting there looking really sad. Is it going to die? btw I am pretty sure it didn't eat at the store either.

Give it some quiet time. I know your worried about it but looking in every 10 min is probably stressing it too (i do it too lol). Try cyclopeez soaked in garlic. The garlic seems to make them more interested.

What kind of clown goby?
My citrons go for mysis, and seaweed sheets the most. |

I had the same issue with a green goby recently. He wouldnt eat anything so I set up a brine hatchery. He ate the nauplii like a champ. Then I added some cyclopeeze to the live brine. By the time a week passed he was eating cyclopeeze and other prepared foods without the live stuff. HTH.

Ok, its your call. BTW, the hatchery isnt that expensive and can be a good source of food for your whole tank.

Sea monkeys are brine shrimp, all you really need is a mason jar.
And once he starts eating, you may be able to get him to take mysis or frozen brine. My LFS sells the packet of "eggs" and when I got my Mandarin, I coaxed him into eating using the brine from the mason. He has plenty of pods to snack on, but I wanted something I could SEE him eat so I knew he wasn't going to starve. |
