My Skimmer Keeps Overflowing!

I set up a 180gallon with 60gallon sump about two months ago.
I installed an in sump Reef Octopus Extreme XP 3000 skimmer at the same time. It's been pulling out a lot of junk and I'm happy about that. But the damn thing keeps overflowing out of nowhere.
I run the bubble line near the top of the rim, and usually thats fine. but every so often I'll wake up and find the cup has overflowed all over the place.
Im not sure why its happening. Should I run the bubble line lower down? thanks for your help!

Check your water level. If it's in check, clean the venturi. Normally, those 2 will cause your skimmer overflows.

Raise the skimmer up some more, if its overflowing 9 times out of 10 its because its in too much water or because the venturi is clogged.

if the power fails, when it comes back the skimmer overflows because of the change of water level. May be thats what happens every now and then.

It's probably a clogged venturi.

I had a problem with my old skimmer overflowing but siting it on 4 layers of eggcrate took care of it. Never had any problems with it after that.

My skimmer started overflowing and it was because it was in too much water. I ended up having to prop it up with eggcrate as well. I also had to keep an eye on it anytime the power went out because of water level changes.
