Considering a Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish

LiveAquaria.com lists a minimum tank size of 50 gallons, is this about right in your opinion? I know they can be a little liberal in their statistics according to some experienced reefers. It says max size 10", but will it really get that big in an aquarium setting?

I have a total system volume of 65g with a 55g DT. Right now the only other fish are a mated pair of perc clowns.

The tank was migrated from a nano so I have some well established rock, though I think I will wait until I have more LR and the tank has established pods from the refugium before attempting this fish.

Thoughts?

The 10" may be taking the streamer dorsal fin into account. I have seen heniochus get a body size of about 4 inches, which is just about pushing it in a 55 gallon tank, but I think you should be ok.

If all you have is the live rock that was in the nano, I would get more, and get your tank well established before thinking about more fish, but the heni shouldn't be a problem.

Average I've noticed is about 8''s plus the streamers although I have seen some over the listed 10''s. To really appreciate them and for long term (7+yrs) a Henny should be in a 8' tank or even longer. I recently watched a small group in a public aquarium; they were huge, thick with extraordinary color and amazing to watch glide through the water.
