Maroon clowns not eating in QT

In the last 24 hrs I added a pair of maroons in QT... standard setup, 15 gal barebottom tank with three PVC pieces, HOB filter (no carbon), powerhead,

Ammonia 0
Trites/Trates 0
Cupramine 0.5
Temp 78-80F

They haven't shown interest in typical new life spectrum pellets, PE mysis, or cyclopeeze. Female is swimming throughout QT, but male has a deflated dorsal fin swimming centrally located in the tank, but otherwise nothing much to report.

Any thoughts?

Why are you treating them with copper?

Empiric treatment. Decision made after I lost a tankful of species not too long ago to ich.

Cupramine depresses appetite. Copper toxicity will kill the ich parasite: for the fish it has various bad effects, too: damage to the sensory system, breakdown of red blood cells (anemia), also causes a protein reaction that increases mucus production, a reaction which suffocates or sloughs parasites, but which can also clog gills, causing hypoxia (shortage of oxygen) and also diminished excretion of waste through the skin, what mammals do when they sweat. Sources I have read suggest careful attention to aeration during use of copper because of the gill problem.

Noted Sk8r! FWIW, they each had their own BTA in the LFS.

I would add to carefully watch your QT params... trying lots of different foods = lots of uneaten food.

hey man i was in your same boat not too long ago. i use cupramine on all new fish regardless of whether i see or not see disease.

the one thing that worked for me was Rod's Fish food. its expensive, but the fish somehow always wants to eat it..

i also tried a variety of food and that seems to work best. give it a try.

Did a 25% water change last night and this morning the boy ate and continued to tonight like mad... girl mouths at some food, but spits it out... hmmm.. how long can fish go without eating before it'll significantly affect their health?

I have a finicky angel in QT and tried soaking some mysis shrimp in a product called Seachem Entice, and this morning he took the bait. Try it, it may work for you. It has a faint garlic smell to it. Worked so far and I'm hoping for the best.

Might have to pick some up. Again, the male ate new marine pellets, PE Mysis, Cyclopeeze... female puts it in her mouth and spits it out... hmmm

I typically wait about 2-3 days before I even attempt to feed a new fish...

I have never had a fish (in a new tank) eat in the first 24 hours

Let it relax
