Today was the worst day in the world!

so to fill everyone in my girlfriend and i moved into our new apartment. i bought y new 50 gallon artisan cube. well its been set up for about a week and its been going flawlessly. well today my little brother comes over with his aldy to check out the house. we walk into my bedroom and we hear a sound like the loudest garden house i have ever heard. my return line blew of my pump and it was shooting water at the roof of my stand. i pulled the sump out dried the hole stand and sump and got everything back in later tonight. well i have been writing my paper for my business class and i heard another noise. i almost shat my pants!!! i turned everything off one by one and couldnt find it until the unplugged the heater. some how it broke. the glass was not broken but it was the adjustment valve to control the temp. it was boiling the water inside the heater! thank god i was home for both these occasions! please pray for me and my tank as i dont want to lose my deposit before my first month is up!

Cheers!, Jeremy

If that is the worst day in the world, then I envy you.

You had a pretty good day, if the worst that happens is a little water on the floor and a broken heater I would count my blessings.

Gotta agree...it's all part of reefing. Hang in there.

I could not agree more. This little bump in the road is more like a nice day at the beach compared to what I have gone through. I have over flowed my Ro/Di holding tank more times then I can count, I have had 40 gal of fresh salt water all over my living room floor when my pump hose decided to come out, I have had to completly dismantle my tank when I found cirolanid isopods, I had 1 huge LTA, a pink spottted shrimp goby, 2 flashing tile gobys, 1 yellow tang all die within 2 days all while the perams were perfect. It looks to me like your day was just fine

I hope your first issue made you learn about the use of hose clamps!

Hang in there. This is all part of reefing. Things will get better

Two things I do recommend you get.
1. Wet vac. Very handly for the occasional spill, also for cleaning out nooks and corners in the sump when you need to.
2. Plastic hose clamps, not the metal ones. Sometimes they can be hard to find, and I've found ziplock ties work just as well if not better.

by the way it was a via aqua 300 watt. it has been a great ehater and i believe what happened is it over heated outside the tank. i dont believe i turned it off soon enough

Home Depot has the "Bucket Head" wet-vac for about $30.00. It fits on the top of any 5 gallon bucket. I got one a while back and I love the thing. It's just the right size for cleaning up spills or getting that last bit of water out of the sump.

Now that's funny! Sounds like a bad day. Here's to hoping it really is the worst one you will ever have in this hobby.

Humm...beats the holocaust I guess.

Seriously though, I understand the stress. I've had hoses pop and recently had a fire try to start due to a little spill and it's all pretty nerve wracking. I've also read posts where some guys lose hundreds of gallons on their floors and thousands of dollars in livestock...so I just think of that when my doo doo butter hits the fan
