yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp question...

I'm thinking about buying my mom a yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp for part of her x-mas gift this year. She has a 12 gallon biocube with 2 false percs and a big nice RBTA and a skunk cleaner shrimp with some corals...

She's always loved the symbiosis between the YWG and the pistol.

Since the tank is so small, the chances of them pairing up is fairly decent right?

also, liveaquaria sells YWG from sri lanka and indonesia, one being 2 more dollars than the other, anyone know if there is any difference in the fish itself?

is the YWG a good choice to go with? or should I go with another goby?

thanks!

Noob

The pistol shrimp will do some serious excavating of the sandbed. Unless the rock is firmly on the bottom glass there could be serious consequences. Yellow watchman will pair with several species of pistol shrimp, if the pistol shrimp are of the pairing species.

In a 12 gallon tank I doubt the established oscellaris clowns will tolerate another fish in THEIR tank ( and it is their tank, clowns are very territorial ). I suspect the YWG will be harassed to death.

I wouldn't add anymore fish. A 12 gallon tank is pretty small and with two clowns in there the bio load is pretty significant for such a small tank already. Some of the best gifts an aquarium owner can get are gifts that reduce the time spent on maintenance. Just pay attention to what your Mom spends a lot of maintenance time on and buy something that will reduce that time. Just an idea

I have been advised by several different lfs that most will pair very easily by themselves, but true on the bioload that is a big addition to such a small tank.
