info needed on sedra skimmer pumps

i have a older euro reef cs6-1 skimmer. after reading here on reef central about the 3500 not being enough pump, i bought a sedra 5000 pump. made some ajustments and got it to work.
i have read that the magnet's in the pump's have a problem with swelling.
is there anything that can stop the swelling from happing. will doing regular cleaning help out

Just clean the impeller and pump with vinegar about once an month. The pumps are pretty dependable.
