Octopus 200 vs. SWC 180

Looking at a skimmer for a 90 gallon + 40b (probably) sump w/heavy bioload. I think I've narrowed it down to these two.

Any and all input welcome.

Either would be fine. Do you have a fuge w/Chaeto? I have a nearly identical sized system and feel that my fuge w/chaeto helps out a lot! I think the load per gallon ratings with SWC and Octo are pretty accurate so I chose the SWC Cone 160. I think it could also work well for you especially if you have chaeto.

I can't speak of the SWC but if you're thinking of the Octo 200 you might want to consider the new sx200 for about the same money...

http://www.aquacave.com/reef-octopus...lvue-3147.html

It has the same footprint, better pump (new psk-1000 rather than the psk-2500), a gate valve on the output and a better neck design IMO. I just got one and I'm very happy with it.

Good luck in whatever you choose. Getting new stuff is great

Gotcha. I guess this boils down to a SWC vs. Octopus question, and which of which would be best for a 90, owned by someone who believes in over skimming.

Do you have any size restrictions? The SWC looks like it would fit into a much smaller space but it comes with the psk-2500 pump.

I was considering both of these but I decided for around the same price I can wait a month maybe two and grab the new ATI powercone!

The SRO octo would be my second choice

I've pretty much got the same setup, and just went with a SRO Cone 2000 w/the bubble blaster pump. No review yet it shows up on monday. I'm replacing my older Octopus 200 which works great but I felt like trying something new.

(my setup is a heavy stocked 65 (3x2x18) with a 40 breeder for a sump.)
