RO/DI Question

Looking at buying RO/DI filter. I found a Kent Maxima 50 gpd used- is this a good filter? Any questions I should ask? Also, does the ro/di filter remove all nitrates?

If you are buying a used RO/DI you should also check how long the filters have been used for, when the last filter change was, how long the DI has been in use, and what size filters (so that way if you need to buy new ones you can have them ready when the system arrives). But depending on the size of your system, 50 gpd is a good rate (of course its pressure and temp dependent), and Kent is a decent brand.

Do you have a lot of nitrates in your tap water? If so I'm not sure if the RO/DI will remove those.

Backwards:

Nitrates are created in your system, RO/DI won't touch those. Nitrates in the incoming water it will remove.

Ask when the filters were changed as well as the age of the membrane. Buying filters and a membrane will put your total cost higher than a brand new unit.

Nothing wrong with the Kent Maxima, but if I remember, it's a four stage unit and isn't meant for water with chloramines. You'll want to know what your incoming water is.

Jeff

If you have nitrates in your well water then you are going to have to find a different way to remove that. They make some filter media that will remove it, and you can run your water through that before swapping it with your DT. But the RO/DI won't help with it.

Exactly what I bought for $50. Bought all new filters for it from BRS.
