58 Oceanic Lights
I just picked up a 58 gallon Oceanic tank for a great deal. I need to get some lights for this thing. Size is 36 long x 18 wide x 21 tall. I cant decide on MH or T5. I dont know what type of corals I will be running yet but I want to be able to keep anything and not have to upgrade lights later.
What do you guys think I should get? My Canopy is only 8 inches tall. Is that too small for metal halides? |

I would go with 6 T5 bulbs. Whether you go retro, TEK or ATI is up to you, but given your hood size I would go that way. A pair of 150w or 175w MH bulbs in good reflectors (lumenarc style) would be great too, but you may want to mod the hood so they can be mounted outside of it for clearance and cooling. You could just cut holes in the top and mount the reflectors on the top of the canopy. A quick bit of woodwork would hide the lights and allow you to mount some fans to cool them down.
