Slightly different bubble plate designs. The supermarine has a type of cone shaped affair around the bubble plate.

I have used both the deluxe 250 internal and the supermarine 250 on my 300 gallon and the supermarine is by far a better skimmer. it has a bigger pump and the water level is easier to adjust and it just flat out skims like a beast.

The deluxe has a little more bells and whistles as far as adjustments, but I think the bigger pump and bubble plate makes the difference

There are physically more materials involved in the deluxe design. More materials, tubes, fittings, etc. make it more costly. Compare pictures of the two.
