Talking How often does your tang...um...poo? haha

I have a yellow-eyed kole tang, approximately 4 inches. He's quite the piggy, and grazes all day. I dont have a lot of algae in my tank, but he still manages to pick whatever he can find. I feed the tank three times a day, usually, and a combo of NLS pellets, F1/F2, Mysis, etc.

Has anyone ever noticed how often their tang poops? I noticed Bubba (the tang) poops A LOT! I was staring at my tank last night, and decided to count his "explosions." 10 times in a 20 minute period. OMG! If that were continuous, thats 30 times an hour! Is this normal? Has anyone ever observed this, or am i just slightly sick? LOL

Can fish have intestinal upset? Is my tang normal?!?

Well it just depends on how much you feed.. in my case i only feed once a day too keep my nitrates in check. In your case 3 times a day is pretty heavy feeding but the more food for the fish is better but at the same time keeping your parameters in check.

Ya, I know 3 times is a lot, but im careful and check my parameters a lot, and everything is in check. It just seems like a lot for him to be a constant pooper, even many hours after his last feeding. Weird!

yeah, my tang was quite the piggy too. He was a whitecheek tang, had for over 2 years until he passed last week. anyway, he would eat anything. I have a melanaurus wrasse and this tang would go so far as chase this wrasse all over the tank b/c the wrasse had poo coming out and the tang wanted to eat it-which he did! gross!!!

to answer your question....i've never sat there and counted poops. so, i couldn't tell ya' if my remainder yellow tang is as bad as yours

I see them pooping a lot right at and during feeding. I think feed stimulates them to poop.

I swear i have more important thing going on in my life than counting poos! haha! Watching the tank is my kind of therapy, and when I realized the little guy goes so much, I knew I had to get opinions. I'm glad he's normal! I didnt know if fish could get the flu, or some kind of intestinal upset, which would make them go to the bathroom more!
