how to store liverock?
hey there!
as i am reaquascaping, i have some spare liverock that does not fit into my full fuge. its full with aiptasia and some algae as well as coralline algae. what would you do with it? i thought about tossing it into an empty bucket and maybe change its water once in a while. do i have to worry about it sucking up phosphates and nutrients? any better ideas? thanks in advance, martin |

if it has aiptasia growing on it, I would kill it lol you dont want those stuff back
![]() you can cook it, then dry it then soak in RO/DI water for weeks and months and cook again and then use (re cycle it) if not too worried about the aipatia, put it in a bucket of salt water, with flow and a heater, and change the water once in a while, cover the top so all algae get no light and die off, also change water every once in a while to remove the po4 and no3 that the dead algae are giving off. |

It's a little tedious, but if you can pinpoint each aptasia individually, you can use a wire brush and remove them that way. You might want to give it a shot before you decide to kill "everything." GL.

saltwater
+ power head for circulation + heater +salt water, and top off as needed with RO/DI ... to store Live rock. a skimmer would be nice, but not a must. if you see one aiptasia, there are others too. you are not killing any animals, you are killing pests ![]() ![]() good luck |
