Glass thickness of a 96x30x14

What thickness of glass should I use for a 96x30x14 glass aquarium?
What about acrylic?

I want to do an acrylic one, however I know it is going to be a pita to make look good. Maybe I will start with a sump.

Wow I was way off...
For my tank it says i need only 1/4 inch glass...
I was looking at 3/4 inch glass...

Id like to be safe, so should I go with 3/8 or 1/2

1/4" is way too thin for that volume. I'd think 3/4" is better.

3/4 may be the magic number. I had a 72 x 24 x 15 rimless, no bracing and it was 1/2".

I think the calculator you were looking at was looking at height to determine thickness needed for the pressure. The bottom with 1/4 inch would be an invitation to disaster.

You are reading the graph wrong, you will need 3/4. it calls for the 16mm thick glass which is .63inches. So be safe and get 3/4. You probably were not taking the length into account. You will also want to brace it in a couple spots I am sure.

No he isn't. 8ft long and 15" tall according to the chart needs 6mm glass.

I have a 96 X 30 X 25 tall. It is 1/2" glass with the bottom being double paned. It has bracing every 2 feet of 1/2".

the measurements used should be the 96" long and 30" high. Ignore the depth for the calculation. You will need .63" or greater glass. .25" will break as you fill it.

Umm, 30 is the depth, not the height.

I wouldn't, but that is what the chart is calling for. I've seen 240's made out of 1/2" though so I'd probably go 1/2" and either eurobrace or put braces across the top.

I am going to buy a tank instead of building one. The place I am buying from has 3 year warranty on it.
I hear good reviews and they stand behind their products.

Thanks for the info everyone though, Ill need it in the future.

Probably not a bad idea. Building a tank is a PITA.

Umm ive been asking around and I hear 1 inch acrylic is too thin for such an aquarium...

Is the thickness needed for acrylic and glass different?

Acrylic needs to be thicker.

My 360 is a euro braced 1/2" glass 96x36x24.

So I got a quote from a company.

They said for 96x30x14 rimless glass they would use 1/2 inch glass with 'bottom euro bracing'.

I am not familiar with bracing at all. Never bought a custom tank. I have never seen bottom euro bracing. What is it? Just the same as on top, but below the tank?

Is this tank going to be fine?
They have a 3 year warranty on the tank.
