Blue legged crab & acan

I woke up this morning and saw my blue legged crab sitting right on top of my new acan coral. I though these crabs were reef safe. Any body know if crab was eating the coral or just cleaning? Thx

i have a bunch of blue leg hermits and a bunch of acan colonies. i have no issue with them. my guess would be that it was just there picking at algae or something around the polyps.

I've heard the blue legs were the least trustworthy compared to red legs and scarlets

I have small blue and red legs, and I have 2 big reds, and one electric blue. I used to have two of the electric blue, but one kept tipping my clam over to get at the foot. I got so mad I threw him out the back yard. Only later did I realize I could have put him in the fuge. Heh-heh.

Anyhow, as to the original question, none of the hermits I have bother the coral. Even the remaining electric blue is a peaceful citizen. The acan I have is new, but I also have older brain coral; a lobo, a wellso, and a blasto, and they are not being bothered. Likely your hermit was just foraging. Or looking for a bed . I have one that goes to bed inside my Monti cap.

Crabs and shrimp are opportunistic feeders. You can't be surprised when they go after something you'd rather they not. In my experience, the few times I've tried blue legs, they spent more time trying to kill each other and snails than working on anything else.
