chemi pure elite and purigen

So I have been hearing these two product brought up in different threads and just curious as to people's opinions.

Love 'em. Basically Chemi-Pure is GFO and Carbon, just in an easy package. Purigen is a resin that absorbs organics, and you regenerate it by bleaching it. These are the best things to happen for a nano tank ever, though in a larger tank it's a lot cheaper to use carbon/GFO in a reactor.

ok so for a 120g they wouldn't do anything that a carbon/gfo in a reactor wouldn't do?

Is Seachem's Seagel the same thing as the Chemi-pure?

I've always used Polyfilter, which we used to call polypads, back in the day: and it's very similar to Purigen. Polyfilter will snatch out such things as copper, even insecticide, and other volatiles. It turns color based on what it has absorbed, so it is good as a diagnostic tool.

I'm fighting just a bit with keeping PO4 down. I do run BRS carbon and GFO in the BRS dual reactor. I was at .06 3 days ago and .1 yesterday with the Hannah Checker. I might just have to put GFO in both reactor compartments mixed with a bit of carbon and see how that works. What about putting some GFO in the filter sock hooked to the drain pipe?

It'll make a mess. GFo is very light, and will be all over the place. Put it in a nylon bag, maybe, which comes with Phosban, in the jar.

the filter sock is rather large and the top extends well up past the water line, I can't see it getting out. You think it would go through the filter sock.

Purigen would, but you'd need a reasonable amount. Chemi-Pure would be expensive to run in a tank that size compared to carbon/GFO for about the same effect. Depending on your water, I might be tempted to run Purigen (or Polyfilter) in that tank, there are benefits you can't easily get through another option.

correct. Carbon and GFO in two reactors is the way to go on a larger tank.

As others have stated bag of Chemi-pure in a nano tank sump chamber is great. In larger tanks it's easier/more cost effective to use a reactor with carbon in it.

As for purigen, it'll work in a fine mesh nylon bag but is a complete mess in a reactor without a bag. It ends up all over the place. I know many people use it and love it, but it was a PITA when I tried it.

Cool I might look into it eventually but for now I'll just try to get the carbon and GFO to do the trick.

I think chemi pure is one of the best products available. I have used it since the eighties- and every tank I own has some in it.
