reef dip

Is it safe to add the water I mixed to dip corals back to the display tank. Being as it is iodine and I have heard of people dosing iodine, what do you guys think?

I would personally say no as the concentration is pretty heavy from what I understand, but I could be wrong, maybe someone else can chime in and give you a more definitive answer. I know I always discard the water after the dip.

Not a good idea at all, for one it will have the parasites in it that you dipped it for and there is no real break down of how much of what you would be adding.

the most important rule about dosing is do not dose what you cannot test for... iodine is rough to test for due to the several kinds of iodine in natural sea water and in synthetic sea water... play the safe side and never dose iodine. regular water changes are enough to replenish iodine.

On a practical note dips are stressful on the corals that are dipped resulting in mucous and the natural chemicals corals use to protect themselves being released into the dip water. By pouring it back into your tank you'd be pouring a toxic soup back into your tank.
