Aqua UV vs. Coralife Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizers?
So, simply put, what are the main differences? I assume Aqua UV must be much better as they have a large following, a much higher price, and the units are in general much larger.
The other thing is that with the size of my cabinet I could fit a 36 watt Coralife Turbo-Twist, or a 25 watt Aqua UV. Also, if I plan on upgrading my system is there any harm in oversizing my UV substantially? Thanks!

I think AquaUV just uses better stuff making them cost more. Both accomplish the same thinng but the quality of the parts (ballast etc) is better.
Nothing wrong with oversizing the UV, you can then run a much higher flow through the UV & still kill everything you want. Be sure to consider cost of replacement bulbs when you compare manufacturers & models |

Yes, thanks. That's always a consideration, however I'm always careful to buy the best I can rather than cheap out and realize that I need to upgrade in the future.
Cheaper to do it right the first time!

Aqua Ultraviolet is the best quality UV on the market. But if you put a large UV on a small tank you will run into overheating your aquarium water. UV's put out a lot of heat which effect water temperature, but if you have a chiller shouldnt be a problem. A 40 watt unit is good for tank sizes between 150 gallons to 400 gallons.

There is no way I would run a 40w UV on anything close to a 400g, 150g would be about the max I would run one on.
If a UV does increase temp I think it would be minimal. A 25-40w UV on a 30g would work, you can just put the UV on a timer so it's only on a short time every day. Not sure what size tank he has (70g?) but I would go as big as you can so it would work on your future upgrade & also allow you to have the proper flow/kill rate. The HO UV's would add more but the standard models you are considering I doubt add any more then a normal 40w pump would add I agree, buy a good product once vs replacing it later. Emperor also makes great UV's, my pond has a 150w HO UV (about 6ft long) & I have 2 Aqua UV units for my aquariums, 57w & 80w |
