Need good opinions on 150w mh bulbs DE
First off, let me say that I've tried the search function, read dozens of pages, and every thread that has to do with the subject gets hijacked badly. Please help...
I bought a used but good aqualight fixture, 2x150w HQI double ended setup. It came with barely used Odyssea bulbs, 20000k (which is the color I want). First off, how good are these bulbs? I went through the other threads, and couldn't find anything really usable on there. 2nd, I'm ready to change out these bulbs for better ones anyway... I have a line on Ushio 20000k... decent price locally. 3rd, does anyone have any pics of tanks with 150w DE 20000k bulbs, and what brand are they? This fixture will be used above a 40gal breeder, so it's not deep at all. I'll probably rig up a couple of actinic t5 bulbs for dawn/dusk effect. It needs to be said, that I'm not interested in fantastic growth, since it's only a 40 gal breeder, but I am interested in fantastic color. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

The bulbs in the fixture are GARBAGE. I have used Ushio 20K, now that's a great bulb! Had it over my frag tank for a year and the bulb never shifted color.

Thanks for the replies, your input is really helpful. I fired the bulbs for about 20 min when I got it home, one was a lovely purple, one was a little whiter, even though they both say 20000k.

You have no doubt noticed that sometimes you can't tell the difference between one brand's 14K and another's 20K.... If you like some blue, I really liked the Phoenix 14K

I like the Ushio 150 watt 20K bulb myself. Nice color.

Phoenix 14k. Crisp white with a hint of blue in my Outer Orbit fixture.
