Odyssea 4x39 watt ho t5

Only four months into the hobby and I was looking for an explanation between individual reflectors on a light and a full hoof reflector. The light I have which is stated as the thread topic has a full hoof reflector which wraps around all four bulbs, so I was wondering how well that compares to individual reflectors. Appreciate any advice.

Individual reflectors will typically reflect 95% or more of that individual bulbs light into the tank. Where a single reflector may seem ok, it's not reflecting all of that light in the intended direction. Think about a car headlight. Then think about that same headlight without the reflector housing..

I don't know if you are looking for a scientific answer but I can assure that individual reflectors will reflect much more light. I switched from a fixture with a single reflector to an individual reflector retrofit and bleached all my SPS without changing the bulbs.

To a degree though it is all relative to what type of corals/clams you would like to keep. My light has a single reflector like yours and I have kept all types of corals and clams but have not tried the highest light demanding corals. I have had no issues even with crocea clams.

The old adage "you get what you pay for" applies here.

Not anything Aquatrader is what I recommend. Maybe someone can help me out but i heard none of there stuff is UL approved therefore if it casues a fire your insurance will nto cover it. Odyssea is a aquatrader brand if I am not mistaken.
