Custom Sump Design Question

Has anyone out there ever tried to combine the wet/dry and refugium methods into one sump? From water flow and nutrient reduction aspects is this possible/advisable?

If you have never tried this then please state so in your post because I am looking for advice from people who have actually done it.

I am building this sump for a 160 gallon.
