are the PH sealed off the the overflow, thinking if not, if you have a power outage, the tank will drain down to the height of your standpipes, rather than the top of the overflow.
COuld also look into a DIY wavebox.

Thanks Everyone. I decided to just do it and had the tank mfg drill for 4 returns along the centerline of the tank, all 1.5" bulkheads. I picked up a Reeflo Hammerhead to drive it with the intent of having a lot of flow without a lot of velocity. An Eheim 1260 will provide the returns and ~3x turnover in my sump.
