New Tank Return design question

I'm about to purchase a Mr.Aqua 48 rimless (35.4x17.7x17.7). I've been playing with the overflow and return design in google sketchup and was looking for some advice from more experienced reefers. I plan on running this tank with only the returns providing flow. Iwaki 960GPH into 1" SCWD split into the two returns using locline with flare nozzles. Will this work, or am I destined to have to add a PH to the left side of the tank ?

Another option
One return is hidden under the sand and pops up under a rock on the other side of the tank

With the second one, remember to have a siphon hole, or you'll drain the tank when power goes out.

Would the SCWD hold the siphon if the power was lost when outputting on the low return ? I was hoping the upper return would break the siphon.

Sorry didn't see the higher return. That should break the siphon. Just always remeber to test it with a power cycle.
