can you have too many pods?
Because of my mandarin I've been buying at least 1 bottle of pods every week since at least a month before i got him. I've recently noticed a ton in my fuge and at night i see a bunch running around the display tank... these suckers are huge too, I'm not sure my mandarin could even eat some of them. Should i stop dosing or can you not have too many pods?

the population will only stay at what your tank can support. you can suppliment but it will fall again

Since you said they are huge I am wondering if you actually are looking at amphipods and not copepods.
Also, one bottle a week? That seems like an absurd amount. I have bought one bottle of tigger pods and used it over the course of about a month or so, and my mandarin seems quite happy and actively hunts for all of them.

You're right, i thought those little guys i keep throwing in there were growing up but after looking them up it was definitely amphipods. Thanks.
I wanted a mandarin ever since my friend started talking about giving me his tank. So i decided if i got one i would make sure he had plenty of food and add a bottle every week and since i go to the reef store for water every week its ez

The bottle with double pods is like $20 here, if i order stuff online i look too cuz usually its cheaper or u might find the buy one get one free deal. I knew it might start gettin pricey but i told myself if i got it i would sacrafice a few beers a week to make sure he wuz well fed lol... didn't want there to be any question about whether or not he had enough food in a smaller tank

That's one way to get over the must have a 100gal 1 year old tank rule for mandys. 1 bottle a week! Man, you really must want one! The only way I can see too many pods being a problem is if they start dying off, youll get a big bioload that needs to be taken care off.

Tigger pods won't live long term in your tank, so keep that in mind.
Rather than spending $20 a week, why don't you just culture your own pods? It's really easy to get them to reproduce, I used a double size sandwich container, they will thrive at room temp 70F Feed them some phyto (also easy to culture at room temp). Melev's Reef has a pretty good outline on how to do this.
