very unhappy with hydor evolution 1400
recently purchased the pump, and it ships with a rubber plug installed in the screen on the inside of the housing. the impeller beats on this, making a god awful noise, so i removed it thinking it was just for shipping. well, the unit goes in reverse upon start up, relying on the bumper to make it go in the correct direction. so without the bumper, my pump goes in reverse. with the bumper, it makes a racket and doesn't circulate for beans.
hydor says that it is working as designed, anyone got a fix for this? |

hmm mine never made a noise other than a slight click at start??? Is the bushing pressed in correctly into the nose piece???

If you take off the cover, there is a black bushing that the prop rides in. One some of the early units, the bushing would pop out causing excess racket .

Just the other night one of my two 1400's started making a pretty annoying noise too. I cleaned it out thinking it was just full of junk but it's still making a noticable hum/clicking noise. I can ignore it at it's current level, just hope it doesn't get worse.
Edit - mine has one of the newer bushings |

Bushing is behind the prop, apart of the prop assembly that pulls out.

ok, i'm not sure if the bushing is there, but while looking at that housing, i noticed the propeller was not on all the way, was up about 1/4" because it was not put on the hex shaft properly. just moved it around, pushed it in all the way, and voila, it's not noisy anymore. thanks for the help

depending on the model, you may still need to order new bushings from Hydor. They offer them for free, so you're only out the effort of an email and install. Mine began to start backwards after a short while on a wave maker, so I ordered the bushings today. I don't have anymore info than that on the subject.

If you run your tank with high alk/calcium these will stop very frequently. Mine do not run for more than 8 days, sometimes they stop after 3. Then i have to soak the bushings in vinegar. This design is terrible.

I just got 2 of the 1400 and they make clicking noise on Startup. It is scaring the fish. I want to order 2 more but not with the noise. Anyone have a picture showing the location of the busing. It does not seem that I have one.

I don't have pictures but one bushing is in the pump at the bottom of the hole where the impeller goes in, the other is inside that fin looking thing that holds the impeller into the pump.

I see them. It is funny that they cant resolve the issue with the noise. Their should be a fix. I dont understand. I think if the busing is thicker the problem will be resolved. I moved the one on theimpeller up and it resuced the noise. I run them on red sea wavemaker but after few on and off the bushing slid back in its olace an noise came back. I was thinking of buying 2 more but with the noise I might opt to try Marineland Maxikjet 1200 pro. It is also half the price. I spoke to Marineland and they state that you can put them on a wavemaker you just have to make sure that the props are clean all the time.

I am looking to add a little more flow to my 125 without spending too much. The powerhead will be turned off and on two or three times a day, so a click on startup wouldn't be too big of a deal, but running backwards would be. Is there a way to know if a particular power head is a new model? Or, is it just a matter of changing the bushing if it is an old one?
Would you guys still use the Evo 1400 all thinks considered? |

Find someone that has them that is local and maybe listen to them. The noise is not bothering me it is just that you spend money and you expect better quality. Their older models did not have an issue an they are still running in my tank. Tryy it and see. Maybe order one and if you dont like it thern return it or sell it.
