To snail or not to snail?
Okay so I have some turbo snails in my DT and it is pretty much clean. I still have some diatom bloom in my sump in the fuge part. Should I put one small turbo from the DT in the sump? I have cheato in there and I don't know if it will eat that too. What do you guys recommend? Snail or just leave it alone???

I would. They shouldn't eat the chaeto.

Yes throw a few in there. I have some in mine and they are healthier then the snails in my DT(No hermit predators). They have been in there for 3 years. They keep the fuge walls and sand bed clean. I do see them on my cheato but I'm not sure if they eat it or not. My ball grows constantly where I have to trim at least once a month. So if they are eating it, the cheato is not being affected. I have 3 turbos and many nassariuss in it.

Thanks I will do that today when I get home from work. This may sound dumb but how exactly do you move them? I tried once to move the snail to a different rock and I couldn't get him off. I didn't want to pull him too hard but they have a strong grip to things. How do you get them to release?

Just be careful if you are running an external pump that you don't allow the snail to get sucked into it. I found that a bioball at the outlet of my sump doesn't impede flow and will keep any critters from going through the pump.

I also thought I was going to rip them in half the first time I yanked on a snail. I just pull slowly and at an angle, they will come off.

Just converted my sump to a refugium last week. Didn't think about putting snails down there. Makes sense that micro will grow if the macro is growing.
