Filter socks

My socks are going in the wash tonight and wanted to know if anyone ever puts a dab of soap in there with them? Most of the time I just run them in a hot water cycle only.

Thanks for looking

I wouldn't use any soap but you can use some bleach and just run it through an extra rinse cycle.

I use some bleach and then extra rinse and at least a full day extra of air drying

I have seven inch mesh socks with plastic top rings and mistakenly put them in the washing machine. Busted them up. So I just soak them in a little bleach, rinse in water, and then a quick soak in de-chlor. Works great.

I don't know if it is safe or if it helps, but have you considered using an organic soap? Dr Bronner's comes to mind. This stuff is made to not leave a residue and even if some soap tags along, it decomposes as its made of hemp and other plant products. No idea if it'll work-- just throwing that out there.

There is a thread in the chemistry forum suggesting soaking in peroxide then doing a was with cycle (with out soap of course) to be safe and not run the risk of any residual bleach making it in to the system.

Never use soap. It doesn't rinse out. Soap is technically a lubricant, not a cleanser or disinfectant. Pure chlorine bleach is fine, leave the filter socks in the air for a few hours and any residual chlorine has dissipated.

I have been just using hot water to wash and let them air dry. So far it has worked well. I change mine every week.
