how to reduce the noise of BM NAC6

my nac6 is making a lot of noise,
but when I use a finger to block the air intake, the noise is gone.
Does anybody have the same issue as this?
I took it apart and assemble it together couple times, same problem.

the deeper the skimmer is in the water the quieter it will sound. If you block the air it will be really quite but you need the air input for the skimmer to skim. Is the noise coming from the pump or the air tube? (my Nac7 is at 7 inches deep in the water and pretty loud)

thanks for reply, I set up the wate level at different depth from 6" to 11", the same problem. The noise is not coming form the air tube, seems coming from the impeller breaking the air bubbles.

try to find a air silencer, there are also some diy air silencencers that you can make. I will try and find a digram for you.

Swap out to a needle wheel. I got a replacement for a broken mesh mod. Increased bubble production and quieter.

I assume the same goes for the NAC6, they use the same pump right?

I also replaced a broken stock mesh wheel with a needle wheel. The mesh wheel broke shortly after firing it up for the first time. Make sure that the impeller is fully snapped into place, and/or not broken. It'll rattle if it's not completely in, as opposed to a hum. Mine took a couple of weeks to break-in. Once broken in, it is nearly silent. Good luck.

I am still hoping for my pin wheel to get silent on my Nac 7.. At this point it is still loud.. doing great job though.

when the mesh wheel makes noise it is probably time to replace it. I just did that and the noise level dropped with new meshwheel. you could also try the needlewheel version, it is a bit louder than the meshwheel but it may last much longer. I run both on my nac skimmers.
