That tom's aqualifter used mine for vacation for five weeks with no faults what so ever, even had someone checking the tank for me who complained about being bored.

I have been using the JBL ATO for over 3 years without a problem. My RO reservoir is only 3 gallons so even if something did fail, it would not drop my salinity levels to dangerous levels. I use the Mini 404 as well. I have the level set with the float to just above the pump to protect it from running dry.

Make sure to put it on a timer that cycles power to it a few times a day, those things have a habit of locking up....reseting the power fixes it.

Additionally, there are some internal settings you can manipulate for alarms and pump timing. The manual can be downloaded from the JBJ website.

I have seen this posted a couple of times now but for the life of me I cannot find how to increase pump times anywhere, even on their site. Can you point me there or tell me how?

As for setting it up on a timer? Yours must be defective as mine has been running for 15 months without the slightest hiccup.

I have been using a JBJ for approx 3 yrs and it has worked flawless.

I use a cheap and small Rio pump.

I also have a ~ 3gal ATO reservoir so even if a float stuck it wouldnt do much harm. I do have to refill every 4 days but I check the sump almost daily so no biggie. When I go on Vac I have a friend stop in every 3 days to feed and fill the top off.

It was defective, no doubt about that, it ran great for a year or two, it was after that it started to get a little squirrly. Do a few searches, I wasn't the only one it happened to.

Thanks for the link. I have searched and most issues were with bad or dirty floats or people not understanding the 3 min cutoff. As an example, you have a large sump and use an aqualifter which pumps very little water. 3 mins may not be enough time and it will shut down before the sump has reached it,s level and consequently will not start up again since the float is already down. I have seen posts where others have corrected the problem by installing larger pumps not knowing all they had to do was to increase the failsafe pump time as shown in the link you just posted.

FYI. JBJ ATO is on special at Aquacave for $79. http://www.aquacave.com/jbj-ato-auto...ller-1935.html
