90 gal center section support removal

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its time for the center support to go. All cracked up and shadowing my tank. I need a rock solid idea, tried & true.

Im wondering if i even need it. tank is 15 years old , no leaks.

Thanks a ton

I have a 75 gallon tank with 80 pounds of sand and 75 pounds of rock and the center support is removed. The stand works fine.

I removed the center support of my 210 a few years back. Never had any problems. As long as there are 2x4 supports on the sides, you should be ok. If the stand is 15 years old, maybe reconsider. My stand was about 4 years old.

get some 1/4" acrylic...cut it to size. line it up over the current center brace and drill 4 total holes in the larger part of the old brace (the part attached to the rim) and use nylon screws and nuts to attach it. After its all attached...if you can cut out the old center brace using a hacksaw, rotozip, dremel etc(just cut the skinny part)..tada! I did this for a friend even after warning him. It has held up for over a year so far and no signs of being weak. I in no way take any responsibility for water on your floor if the tank fails. What I mentioned is a pretty good way to replace it without having to worry about the tank failing but there is still a possibility and I would never trust it if you just removed the brace all together. Some people have even used a glass center brace in place of acrylic. good luck
