Weird Ammonia problem...please help guys

Hey guys im using a Red Sea master test kit and im having ammonia problems. I have tested my tank and was getting ammonia readings so I setup the QT to get the fish out. After setting the QT up, running it for a day with a fresh sponge I am still getting ammonia readings (.25). I decided to test regular distilled water and ended up with ammonia reading of Zero. I then tested fresh saltwater (distilled water/oceanic salt) and i am getting a reading of .25 before it even enters my tank. Thoughts? Is it possible my paired percs could die from this?

Your bath of salt probably has ammonia in it. Did you use prime or any other ammonia remover? That can help get rid of ammonia in your water change.

I would dose something like Amquel, and get a second opinion on the test kit. Something might be decaying, or the kit might be wrong. Hard to say which. It's common for salt products to contain some ammonia, though.

yeah bertoni, im getting these readings in both my DT and my freshly setup QT thats why im not thinking its decay. The kit tests ammonia at zero on regular distilled prior to mixing.
