best way to treat "dead" live rock

I found a good deal on some live rock on CL. but its been out of a tank for months and of course not kept in salt water if any water at all. what is the best course of action? Salt water a power head and some sand and rock from my other tank.

Cook it
SW, PH in a dark container, change out the water 2X a week till it stops ejecting matter.

Somedays it just isnt worth gnawing through the straps......
