Tek Elite Users

As most of you know, there has been ongoing issues with the fans in these fixtures. I purchased two 6x54W fixtures last year; one from Premium Aquatics and one from Marine Depot. After I purchased the first one from PA, I received a fan replacement kit direct from Sunlight Supply. I replaced those fans and for the most part they worked fine. The explaination was that the power source for the original fans were incorrect and would cause the fans to stop or have noisy startups.

The second fixture was purchased from Marine Depot last Nov. I had the same issues with that fixture and within the first month of use, all three fans burned out completely. I did not receive a fan replacement kit like I had previously. I attempted to contact Sunlight Supply via several e-mails, but was unsuccessful. After contact ing Marine Depot, they directed me to their Sunlight Supply rep. I was told that the fans and fan covers were being redesigned as the current covers were causing a vacuum that would lead to fan burnout. Needless to say, after one additional phone contact I was sent out the new fans and fan covers. I received them yesterday and wanted to show pics of the new covers for those of you that are unaware of the current replacements.

Thanks for the post I also bought a Tek elite a year ago and I also got my new style fans and I have had them running now for a week, so far so good. I also just replaced all of my bulbs.

I am putting my replacements in today. The fixture that had all three fans burn out was becoming so hot that you could not touch it after about 2 hours of use and it has actually warped the plastic light cover. I am hoping this is the final fix for these fixtures. I have been a long time user of Tek lights and fully support Sunlight Supply, and hope that they have resolved this issue.

Time will tell. I am hoping that they put a lot of effort in this fix and not some half heart-ed attempt. I have noticed that the acyclic warps and then straightens out with the temps.

How are the new fans compared to old ones as far as noise?

Same fans as far as I can tell Sunlight believes that the problem was with air flow restriction due to the wrong design on the fans covers. My fans are quite as far as I can tell.
