24"Medal Halide on 36"TANK OK
Hey everyone i have a 24" medal halide light but i upgraded my tank to a 57 gallon tank which is 36" long but really cant afford to buy a new light i calculated the light to be about 6 watts per gallon will it be ok

a 250w W the right reflector will light that whole tank..no problem... Im running a single 250 on my 48" 90g

being thats its a fixture you might need to hang it slightly higher to cover the tank.. I have about 8" on the left side of my 90g that is slightly shaded on mine..but i have a mini luminarc reflector

I would think it would be considerably less spread than a luminarc! Those luminarcs are the best at spreading light.

what i don't get is that the 36" fixture only has one 250w but with longer t5s same medal halide just t5s are different

IMO one metal halide is not enough for a 36" tank unless it is a top of the line, large reflector (lumenbright, lumenarc) and hung fairly high.

on my 36" 62g(36x20x20) lee mar I had a 250w in a mini luminarc with perfect 100% coverage..light was mounted 10-12"above the water

yea thanks i will be hanging the light over the tank so i should be ok if not i will just have to buy a new light i just the that two medal halide on 36"TANK is not needed
