New Aquaticlife 6 Bulb T5, Mounting Leg Dilemma?

Just bought a new Aquaticlife 6 bulb T5 setup and I really like the light but, even though the legs seem sturdy they are wide and hangover my glass canopy making it impossible to lift the lid during feeding. If I slide it towards the back of the tank it compromises the light in the front of my display.

The light is under a canopy so hanging it from the ceiling is not an option. My only thought is to remove the section of the front legs that hangs over the glass canopy with a jig saw.

Anyone have any idea's. I would rather not have to cut out a piece of the front legs if I can avoid it.
