Tank Type / Size / Shape assistance
Hello everyone, long time lurker, first post. It's nice to now be apart of the community.
I started out the fish keeping hobby with a 30 gallon freshwater setup, within 3 months moved to a 55 gallon (48 inches long) saltwater after much research. Well the thank ended up being too long and was too much of a hasstle to keep the tank. So I sold it. I am now looking to get something smaller, maybe a 46g bowfront? or a 46 gallon tall box. or maybe even a 50 gallon ( i think there less long then the 55?) My question is, what type of fish wouldn't mind not having a long tank to be in, and instead a taller'ish one? What am I limited to? I wont really be keeping coral, maybe 1 or 2 easy to keep ones. Any knowledge given will be greatly appreciated and absorbed. |

Welcome, Your choices are large. Research the fish that catch your eye. There are some that will not do well in tanks of that size.
It is good to see a newbee concerned about the fish they have not yet bought. Best advice RESEARCH |

Thanks for the reply peppie!
I will do that, I will look at some database of fish and find out if they like the taller tanks. can anyone tell me from experience pros and cons of a taller tank vs a longer one? Some troubles or difficulties they came across? |

welcome to the forum. you could keep most small fish in that size tank so most fish that stay under 6 inches. I would start out with clowns or damsels.

I most likely wont be keeping tangs, unfortunately. I am a college student and even though I have stable housing (wont be bouncing around with the tank) I live in a room, so a 48 inch long tank is just a bit too, spacious.
I really wouldn't mind not being able to keep a ton of corals, and I doubt a 46g cube, even at 32" deep would be TOO bad/deep. |

A tall tank will be harder to do maint near the bottom of the tank.
At 32'' tall you will be in up to your shoulder. Depending on how tall your stand is you may need a ladder to get into the tank to do maint. |
