Dosing question-Kent Tech M

Just a few quick questions...
Today I dosed my 75 gl tank with 75ml of Kent Tech M (I have a case of Bryopsis). My pre dose Mag level was 990-1050 ppm. My questions:

Shortly after I added the Kent Tech, all of my Nassariuos snails came out-is this normal?

Will the Kent Tech harm any of my fish/inverts?

Should I be adding the Kent Tech directy to the DT (which I did) or thru the sump?

Am I adding the correct amount to effectively kill Bryopsis?

Thanks for any insight!!!

How much were you going to add?

Yes, it may harm snails.

I would add it to your sump so that it can dilute a bit before it makes it back to the DT. I know a high Mg+ level will kill some algaes, but I would try a different course of action first.

Randy, can you explain why it may harm snails, especially given that we have to have Mg+ for Ca+ and Alk to be available?

Not sure on how much to add? Seems I've read that the level should be raised to 1500-1600 ppm to kill Bryopsis?

Wes:

I don't think it is the magnesium that kills bryopsis, but rather an impurity in some brands. That why the dose can be hard to judge. Also, I do not know what exactly hurts snails, but folks going the bryopsis route do report problems sometimes.

I've also tried the Tech-M for Bryopsis and it didn't work for me. Mine is finally starting to recede but only once I got my ALK above 6 and my Mag above 1300. JME

When I treated with Tech m for bryopsis it worked well but it took a few weeks to kick in. It was propagation tank and there weren't any snails in it though. After a couple of weeks of elevated levels around 1500. it just started turning brown and fell off, just when I was about to give up on it.

I just put a whole 16 oz bottle in my tank over the course of one day and we'll see what happens. every other tank inhabitant looks ok, snails, coral and fish. The bryopsis is starting to get thin.... hopefully this does it!

I dosed mine in the sump as well.

One day and no casualties! I'll be hitting it with another 75ml this afternoon...
