Newbie Looking For Advice On What Corals To Buy
hi iv just bought a 250litre tank and i am looking a setting up a fish and coral tank. Iv been reading alot of stuff online about the hobby over the last two months and have learnt alot, but then i got to thinking that Corals can be poisonous, i have a new born baby on the way and do'nt wanna be exposing him to anything dangerous so was wondering if anyone knew what corals i should be staying away from to avoid a risk of poisoning anyone. also don't wanna be poisoning my fish with the coral i choose either.
thanks in advance for your help |

To Reef Central Zoanthids are the ones to be very careful with. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1858696

Everyone can react differently when exposed to corals and their mucus some use for defense. I think the safest way to go about it is to wear gloves and clean up after you touch any corals. Then the risk goes way down. Also when fragging corals always wear gloves and eye protection. Just take proper steps to keep you and everyone around you safe. And buy up any corals your tank can keep alive.
Zoa's are hardy and have some of the best/crazy looking color combinations you can add to your reef tank IMO. I would not fray away from them if your looking to keep a mixed reef. |

I like zoas too. As long as you wear gloves and wash your hands good, there's nothing to worry about. That goes for any of your corals. As long as you don't put the baby in the tank, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Toddlers are more dangerous because they like to climb on things and open things and dump things into the water.
Another consideration is the water itself. It can harbor all sorts of bacteria that while beneficial for the tank, can also make you sick. It's always a good idea to wash up after you've been in the tank.
