Question on this Metal Halide Fixture
its the cheap route... but just thought id ask
i got a 40gallon i wanna setup, and i wanna try metal halide, i dont got alot of money, but thought id give this fixture a whirl and see what people say about http://www.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-3...ie-p/54246.htm its price is decently in my range... or does anyone know of a better quality one that maybe isnt TOO much more expensive? or maybe point me into a better direction? my friend bought the odyssea t5 fixture over his 20 gal long, and it does find for the corals he has, and he has no complaints about his T5 fixture... but ya.. any input?

Check out the Oddysea review thread that should answer most of you questions. I like the Oddysea bulbs I use them in my MH pendant. I would not use their light fixtures though, not make very well, ballast issues and wiring issues. So have had good luck with them, most change out the ballast with a better one.

They are cheap Chinese Fixtures. They do the job, but they aren't built with longevity in mind. I bought a 60inch fixture from them about 3 years ago. For a bargain reefer they will do the job. If it were me, and money was an issue, I'd go with a nice T5 setup. IMHO Metal halides are just too HOT an energy inefficient. LED's might be out of your price range, but they are the future of Aquarium Lighting. HTH

On my 40 breeder I did 2 150w MH and got diy from hellolights. I bought the ballasts from ballastwise. It worked very well and gave off plenty of light. Never had that brand of light but it seems many people trash them. Very tempting price though.

^ I used to use 2 150s now I run a single 250 with much better results.

I had one for a long time. No complaints. It did it's job an grew corals. I eventually upgraded and can't really see a difference in growth so it must have been ok.
